General Members Meeting The October meeting was called to order by President Jeff Wishnie. Officers present Rolf Bienert, Rick Leggett, Tom Moock, Chip Sheppard and Pete Norlander. A total of 10 members and guests were present. The meeting was held at the Round Table Pizza in South San Francisco. New Members/Visitors BAPA member Bill Jablon and Guest Johanna Adler joined us for the evening. Bill has been a member of BAPA for 5 years. He flies an Arcus Cygnus. Johanna is a non-pilot friend of club member Simon Waddington. Officers’ Report Jeff Wishnie reported a meeting is scheduled for October 10 between officials of the City of Pacifica and representatives of BAPA. The agenda is to discuss the future of flying at the Dump/Mussel Rock flying site. At this point the city appears to be OK with continued flying in the area. Possible options range from maintaining the status quo to regulation of some sort. BAPA representatives at the meeting will be Phil Neri, Dave Sondergeld and Tom Moock. Jeff reminded us that nominations for the 2006 year Officers position will be made at the November meeting. Separately, Jeff announced that due to job requirements he may be moving to Beijing next year. Rich Leggett announced that the annual Elk Mountain fly-in and the end of the season XC League competition are scheduled for the week end of October 8 & 9. The XC League competition will be held in the Owens valley. Rich stated that the Coastal Clean up day was successful. A lot of trash was picked up by participating BAPA members and members of the general public. Rolf Bienert reminded us that when flying Mt. Diablo all landings within the boundaries of the Park must be done at the designated LZ. Rolf observed a pilot that landed outside the designated LZ and received a citation by the Park Rangers. Jeff Wishnie reported from Treasurer Raquel Lopes that $3,245 is in the club account and 148 members. Three new members joined in September; Terri Kowing, S. Brown and Eliad Zax. Old Business Minutes From Past Meeting - A motion was made to approve the September Minutes. The motion was carried and approved. New Business A Bay Area Pilots summit is planned for early December. It will involve both the hang gliding and paragliding communities. The purpose will be to foster greater cooperation between hang gliders and paragliders and the sharing of sites, knowledge, and camaraderie, etc. $485.00 has been budgeted for expenses. WOR has agreed to pay $300.00 towards expenses. A request was made for BAPA to contribute $100.00. Tom Moock motioned the expenditure be approved. The motion was approved. A motion was made to approve $700.00 for expense reimbursement for money spent on the cancelled Mussel Rock event. Because the amount was over $500.00 and a quorum was not present, the motion is to be presented at the November meeting. About 200 goats are still being utilized to clear vegetation at the Dump/Mussel Rock by the City of Pacifica. An electric fence is being used to contain them. Please stay outside the fenced area. Also, earth moving heavy equipment is being used. Please give a wide berth to the workers performing earth moving so as not to interfere with their work. The name change advisory voted taken by USHGA members appears to have a slight edge in favor of changing USHGAs name to USHPGA – United States Hang gliding and Paragliding Association. New ‘silly’ categories are planned for the XC League awards ceremony at the annual Holiday party. Be creative! Send your suggestions to Jug Aggarwal. BAPA members are encouraged to submit their favorite paragliding photo that they have taken for the 2006 BAPA Calendar. Persons whose photo is selected for the calendar will receive a free calendar. Additionally, a committee will select and award first, second and third place prizes. The prizes will be, respectively, $50.00, $25.00 and $10.00 Tom Moock announced that he had taken first place, in his category, in the Las Vegas Serial Class competition held last month near Jean, NV.
